Empowering Healthcare in Tanzania
According to global health estimates, 68% of the world’s population lacks access to essential surgical care. Due to contextual differences, skills that are effective in low-resource settings are often no longer practised or taught in high-income countries. Conversely, these same skills may be underdeveloped or absent in low-resource environments due to limited training, inadequate infrastructure, and gaps in effective healthcare systems.
The Duluti Optima Volunteers & Student Exchange Program endeavours to address this gap by offering hands-on training in selected, high-impact global surgery and global health skill sets through pre-clerkship and clinical rotations, as well as global surgery research collaborations in Tanzania. Designed for students and professionals in biomedical and health sciences, the program offers flexible durations ranging from 4 weeks to several months, equipping participants with the practical skills and adaptive capacity needed to effectively respond to the challenges of delivering care in resource-limited settings.
